What issues concerning my health are there?
Generally speaking no special vaccinations or inoculatons are required coming into south africa. We hunt in a malaria free environment, but we recommend that clients take anti-malaria prophylactics in the event of touring in other areas.

Medical services are of an exceptionally high standard in South Africa. Morakane Safiris’ lodges and 4x4 vehicles are equipped with basic first aid kits. Medical doctors are within easy reach in the towns near the game reserve.

Tap water is safe through most of the country, but some visitors prefer to drink the many excellent local bottled or imported mineral waters that are readily available.

The african sun can be dangerous, so wear a hat and use the right sunblock.

What is the climate like?
Summer is from October through March, with the temperatures ranging from 15 degrees centigrade to 30 degrees centigrade at night and 25 degrees centigrade to 35 degrees centigrade during the day. The hottest months being November to February.

Winter is from April to October, the temperatures ranging from 5 degrees centigrade to 10 degrees centigrade at night and 15 degrees centigrade to 30 degrees centigrade during the day. The coldest months being from May through August. The winter months are when the hunting is done as it gets very hot in the summer and is very unpleasant to most.

Hunting takes place throughout the year, but mostly during the cooler months from March to September so you will be dealing with temperatures between 10°C and 25°C.

Due to the intense summer heat, hunting is not recommended from December through February.

What clothing should I bring?
As comfortable as possible. For hunting hardwearing, light and soft non-reflecting colours. Remember something warm for the early mornings and late afternoon. Probably most important is comfortable shoes for walk and stalk. Remember a hat to keep the sun off your face.

Keep in mind we have a daily laundry service therefore excess clothing is not necessary.

What is the average gratuity expected by staff?
We are firm believers that a gratuity should only be paid for satisfactory service. We suggest that this should be paid to your professional hunter who will divide it amongst the staff who contributed towards making your safari a memorable occasion.

The recommended rate is $15 per day. It is always difficult to answer a client’s question on the recommended tipping rate for a professional hunter. We would like to suggest that 10% of the daily rate is a good figure to work around.
